About the experience in general:

“This class with Julia was nothing short of life changing. I went in not knowing what to expect, and my mind was blown. Each session was filled with so much wisdom, and it was such a relaxing and beautiful way to start my Saturday mornings. I have felt such a shift in the way I perceive myself, my life, and those around me. I genuinely feel more compassionate towards myself and the world. I would recommend this course to absolutely everyone. Julia is incredible and so is everyone in this community.” - Erica M.
”I truly was not ready nor prepared for the depth and beauty of this course. I’ve been meditating daily for the past several years and practice mindfulness in my work as a DBT therapist. Doing the daily metta meditations unlocked a part of me that had previously been inaccessible. It allowed me to access vivid and intriguing dreams and for once, in a powerful and significant way, allowed me to lay down my “armor” and connect with me, my true consciousness or wise mind. I became soft and noticed a capacity for depths of emotions I had not been able to feel like that before - compassion, joy, empathy, sadness and grief. And the experience of the emotions, while deep, were manageable and informative. I highly recommend this course if you are seeking truth and clarity about yourself and the world.” - Theresa O.
”For many years, I considered myself a very compassionate person, but saw that side of me fading and being replaced with hostility. Julia's course helped me reconnect with love and compassion in a new, more sustainable way that isn't dependent upon my mood or external circumstances. I learned how to do the inner work first so that I can create a more peaceful, loving life, starting with compassion for myself.” - Morgan T.Â
“Before taking this course, I was hesitant of spiritual wellness schemes that tell people what they want to hear, rather than what they need to hear. Thankfully, this class makes no effort to ignore the reality of societal inequalities, and does not run contrary to medical/scientific thought.” -K. P.
“I stumbled upon this class at my lowest point in recent memory, hoping for a tool or two to chip away at the darkness that had dogged me for years. What I walked out with was ME. The me I'd assumed was mostly a hazy memory or had only existed in better times, but there she was. Through our lessons and discussions and focused meditations, I didn't chip things away, but lifted them off of me. I was able to name the causes of their weight. I was able to understand why I'd carried them around. I was able to learn how to set them aside or see them for what they were. And not only were those experiences unexpected, but the way I felt after them shocked me. I felt more at peace with myself and others; I felt more hopeful and more willing to hope. And I started being kinder to myself. I cannot recommend this course enough. If you feel angry, if you feel lost, if you feel pinned by your own perfectionism or years of undervaluing yourself, this course is for you and can help. Julia is kind and knowledgeable and will be with you every step of the way as you learn. I'm so grateful I found this course.” - Amanda J.
“Julia's compassion immersion is one of the most profound teachings I've heard in quite some time. I am now inspired to become a warrior of love as my ultimate weapon against all the hate in this world.” - Lauren N.
“Julia's Compassion Workshop is nothing short of revolutionary... Her goal is to teach how to view ourselves, and the world through a compassionate lens, one person at a time. Big ideas are introduced weekly but in a structured way using different modalities (i.e. lectures, group sharing, stories/poetry and homework assignments to name a few). I never felt overwhelmed because Julia emphasizes process and patience, and her faith in the power of love, and our ability to change, is contagious. I was so impressed with the thoughtfulness and intelligence behind the curriculum but even more so with Julia's deep understanding of the symbiotic relationship between oneself and the larger world. She teaches from the inside out and does not shy away from difficult subjects like anger and other hard feelings. The course has changed how I think and has made my life better. Anyone and everyone can benefit from this course and I will continue to recommend it to close friends, family and acquaintances.” - Meredith Z.
“I notice I am better equipped to slow down and let compassion guide my disagreements. And although I often fall short, I am less self-critical when I do, and vow again to strive for a more loving exchange. I try to be even more careful with my words. I feel more at liberty to walk away and defer dealing with a conflict if I feel unable to face it in that moment of anger. I am growing in my awareness that a range of emotions is healthy, and that forbidding the less pleasant ones can do more harm than good. I am also more conscious of the fact that every person who does harm has a story of harm done to them. I try to keep this in mind whenever I encounter hateful people.” — Ana J.
“Some friends recommended this class to my husband and I and I am beyond grateful they did. In this busy, modern life we live in, it's easy to get wrapped up in all of the things that go against our nature and our heart. This class reminded me and taught me so many important philosophies and teachings that will live with me forever.” - Sandy P.
“My wish is that every human could experience this process with Julia. It is an unfolding ~ a reveal of beautiful, gentle yet powerful layers of understanding that nourish the individual and humanity. It is also a practical guide to honing compassion skills, for yourself and for others. This is the work that changes the world. One person at a time. It is a gift. If you are able to attend, please don’t hesitate.” - Chantal D.
“This course is a rich, deep dive into compassion and love--it is truly an immersion and I have come out of it a different person. It is not merely about compassion but about fundamental ideas like self-love and the causes of suffering, and it also dismantles widespread, harmful misconceptions about each person's self-worth, our relationships with one another, our reactions to harm, and our tendency to suppress our feelings. Julia's teachings are thorough, loving and compelling, and as a teacher Julia is extremely knowledgeable and inspires trust and confidence. I hope everyone takes this course--it is a wonderful, life-changing gift to give yourself.” - Isheeka G.
”Julia is a patient guide, gently prompting you to open your heart. A large part of this course's content asks you to crack yourself open, reengage with a wisdom that is already available to you, and rekindle an abundant love that may be dimmed by fear. The teachings are introduced with eloquent timing, and are never overwhelming. The course encourages a softness (we can survive any emotion, even the scary ones, and doing so is easier if we meet ourselves with love) while also providing structure and challenge (are we scared of letting go of our own suffering?) There is a balance of these factors that makes the teachings effective in getting past the critical mind. It is also helpful to be part of a community with like-minded students that fosters a sense of belonging. I highly recommend this course.” — Emily G.
“This training really helped me see my daily struggles in a new way. It helped me see the human condition, my own and others, with tenderness and open-heartedness. I feel warm, inspired to care for myself in a deeper and more loving way, and able to care for others without fear that it will deplete me. It reminded me that true happiness is possible and worth opening my heart to when it comes, and that deep within me, all of these sweet, loving qualities are asleep and dreaming the most beautiful dreams, and that they can awaken and be called forth at any moment.” — Alana B.
“Julia lovingly holds your hand and your heart in a very supportive way while laying out the path for a life of compassion.” — Kelly K.Â
“I did not know what to expect when I signed up for Julia’s compassion class, and now I wish everyone could experience it. Julia walked us through a series of teachings about the self, compassion, and what it means to be part of our larger world that built upon each other week by week. This process enabled me to understand things about myself and others slowly, an excavation of sedimentary layers of personal and social experiences and beliefs that have shaped our lives. Julia’s integration of Eastern philosophy and Western psychology resonated with me in ways that each set of teachings on its own had not. I am so thankful to Julia for her dedication to spreading compassion as a way to address our world’s many challenges. I look forward to continuing my compassion journey with her.” — Jen B.
"I cannot overstate how powerful this course is. If there were a way to gift the experience to the entire world I would. Down to earth and rooted in modern psychology, with offerings of more ancient wisdom interwoven, this course is for anyone who wants to be a better human." — Kate T.Â
"I needed this. We all need this. Never has the time for cultivating true compassion been more necessary for our lives and our planet. Weekly group lessons, guided by Julia’s long-developed practice, were rich with wisdom that helped me to shift the way I’m willing to encounter myself and others. The homework assignments and meditations helped me to stay accountable, so that I could put Metta Bhavana, loving kindness, on its feet and slow down, as I learned through actual experience, not just theory, how to trust in the wisdom of my own heart. Another Julia gift. She gives you the words, so you can eventually release them to the winds, and feel for a change.” — Katie O.
"This course changed my life. I finally get how important it is to treat myself like a friend, and how this goodness will just ripple out. Something in me feels lighter, and life feels easier these days. I'm especially grateful that my mom took this course with me, and that she was as moved as I was by it ("paradigm shift" were her words), and that we have a shared understanding now of how to relate to each other and our world. I wish every person in the world had access to these teachings.” — Tiffany C.
“Julia's compassion class is a deep dive into the wells of ourselves we pass by every day without peering into. Plumbing the boundless capability within all of us to not just endure the challenges of life, but to float within the river of it, our course made gentler by our own work done to remember our innate buoyancy. Her guidance provides a tool, and a lifeview, for navigating the world and recognizing the poetry and possibility of the human condition." — Diana W.
”Don't get me wrong, I can still be an anxious wreck. But this course has helped me identify a space in my heart to rest in and from which to bring my calm love to those around me. I have faded the oldest of resentments and taken off shackles I didn't even know I carried. I feel more resolute in the value of my softness than ever before. When something comes up, I know I can feel my way through it.” - Ava W
”Julia Frodahl's Compassion Part 1 course is an amazing experience. In a time when so many people feel fractured and overwhelmed, she provides tools for accepting the present and embracing a more compassionate future. It starts within, but the course expands far beyond that. If you want to be in a thoughtful, open-minded group of humans, this is a good place to be.” — Jamie B.
”This is a special course which answered many of my questions about life's difficulties, whilst providing tools with which to do something about them. It's brilliant.” — Simon H.
"This class is a beautiful incorporation of spirituality, poetry and science. It became apparent to me that every class - every word - has been chosen with a great deal of care by Julia. All of the elements that she incorporates flow so nicely together. She makes a point to consistently offer the chance for group questions and discussion during class time. This class gave me the structure that I needed to return to my meditation practice and to simultaneously focus specifically on learning about and expanding my heart." - Lex C.
“This course really allowed me to tap on the door of my heart. I felt skillfully guided by the thoughtful material and lifelong work Julia shares so gently with the group. Practicing the meditations enriched my daily life, even on the days I wasn't able to sit still enough to meditate. Over the course of six weeks I began to listen to the voice of compassion in myself and in others more deeply. This course is enchanted with theory, poetry, and community for everyone to learn and engage with.” — Sarah B.
"This is simply the most important work that you can be doing. Can you imagine a world of infinite love? You are already living in it, all you have to do is open your heart.” - Wilson C.
“I went in not knowing what to expect, actually expecting to fail, especially as an alexithymic neurodivergent (autistic, suspected ADHD) person, but I learned so much about how to gently nudge the hate-talk in my head toward something else, and so many new ways of re-approaching myself with compassion and accommodations for chronic pain and disability. I was able to realize and look at things about myself in a way that disconnected from internal ableism and the shame I am constantly expected to feel. I've learned to start the process of disentangling different kind of discomforts. I've read a lot of self help and I've tried to connect with a lot of things without success. There was a spiritual element that could settle in and coexist with me, an atheist-leaning person. The ideas and teachings in this course resonated with me in a way nothing ever has, and I feel like I have just started on a journey that doesn't have an end.” - Aeri A.N.F.
“As a lover of lifelong learning, I've signed up for many classes over the last few years. Inevitably, I'd get busy and the class wouldn't interest me enough to keep up with it. I knew from the first moments of the compassion immersion that this was going to be different. Julia's soothing voice and lovely, literate way of presenting this important information were so relaxing, and the lessons so incredibly compelling, that the experience of attending these classes became something that I looked forward to all week. The teachings and resources were so valuable and relevant; I carried them, and the attendant calm energy, with me on the days we didn't have class. I am still working with the materials even though my session ended a few weeks ago, and expect that part two will bring just as much value, joy, and inspiration to my life. Thank you so much to Julia for this beautiful, life-changing immersion.” -- Heather F.
“...her way of relating the intricacies of the work goes beyond words. Julia's superpower is to speak to a place inside we may have boarded up. A shadowy character who eyes us from the corner of the room; that might have scared us at first, but turns out was our secret best friend the whole time.” - Zander E.
“Julia Frodahl’s compassion work entered my life in a moment of divine timing. I am currently in a moment of major transitions, and most recently, I suffered a tremendous loss in my life that triggered unchecked trauma to creep back up into my life. The course has opened my eyes to engage compassion with not only others, but myself. I was catapulted to put these lessons into practice almost immediately after the course, and I can say with confidence, the self-love and compassion I began to grow for myself helped me blossom compassion in others. Juila’s teaching method guides you to not only integrate compassion for your own self-discovery, but it helped me look around my community, where the lack of compassion and empathy gave rise to constant disappointment and misalignment. I thank Julia for my ever-growing journey along the road to compassion, and I highly recommend the course to anyone looking to see the world with a fresh lens. Much gratitude Julia! And I hope this message reaches someone to decide to open their heart and begin the journey of love and compassion.” — Nikki R.
“This course is part of my journey to better myself as a human being. I feel like I have been on this journey for quite some time and usually I don't find outside stimulus that makes me want to change or think about the world differently. As a very type A, science rules supreme and spirituality is not for me, and did I mention I am kind of an angry Viking kind of a person? All that said I was pleasantly surprised with this course, Julia has this calming presence almost like a spirit guide. She gently weaves beautiful poetry and thoughtworthy ideas into an eye-opening and mind-challenging experience. I felt community with my classmates and there was a raw realness to what some of us shared that makes me very sad and very happy to have been a part of. It felt like a small slice of what the best kind of life should be like, some joy in finding new ideas and community, some sadness because of the state of our existence and our personal lives, some longing for the betterment of humanity. Solace in the fact that small and big acts of kindness do happen around us all the time. Gratefulness to Julia our beacon of hope and inspiration. I am still a type A angry Viking, but I will use my healthy anger as a superpower for good. I do feel a bit more spirited away into a place where the frail beauty of our human condition lets kind compassion reign supreme.” — Christina H.
“I enthusiastically recommend Julia’s Compassion Immersion Course! I have been doing inner work for years and was already on a journey to a more compassionate way of living, but participating in this course was the first time that I’ve been able to holistically reframe how I see the world and how I see myself in the world. I’ve already recommended this course to friends and family. I wish everyone I know would take this course!” __ Selena V.
“Julia Frodahl's course has given me tools and perspective to feel more connection and understanding in all of my interpersonal relationships. I have felt this in my family life, working relationships, and even everyday encounters with fellow citizens. Content rich and very well organized, the value of the course is far greater than the dollars invested. I sincerely believe Julia's class is a service to our entire community.“ — Brendan C.
“Julia's Compassion Immersion course came at a time of crisis and struggle for me both personally and in the world at large. It has been the anchor that I needed to help center myself each week, connect, relate, learn and gain new tools to be more compassionate for myself and others. Julia has an immense breadth of knowledge and wisdom - every word, reading, meditation and message of advice or support she offers cuts right to the heart - she has a special and gentle way about her that is truly magical. This course will encourage you to discover where you can have more compassion for yourself and others, and how our fear, judgements, anger, resentments and insecurities keep us from living as our most loving and compassionate selves. It will inspire you to want to dig deeper and implement Julia's rich teachings more into your daily life. I'm so grateful to Julia for creating this course and look forward to continuing my journey in the Level 2 immersion!" — Jessica F.
“The compassion immersion was pure joy, even through the discomfort of my discoveries. I feel a warmth rising in me that is nourishing and kind. The metta practice I have developed has enriched my soul and begun to open cracks in my heart for my light to shine a little brighter. Julia presents the information with compassion and love without judgement. She shares poetry and stories at just the right time to help open the heart and ease the transition from what I thought was an open and optimistic heart. My greatest takeaway is that there is always work to do but by remaining hopeful I will be able to change my own narrative to a more peaceful and rejuvenating story that contributes to the greater good.” — Kristi A.Â
“This course was eye opening and life changing. I learned so much about unconditional love (yes, there is such a thing) and the obstacles in its way. The insight and tools Julia shared with us relating to anger, judgment, forgiveness, and more have already positively affected my relationships with others, and more importantly, with myself. What a worthwhile investment!!” — Julie G.
"The compassion course held by Julia was not what I expected in the most profoundly positive way. It not only strengthened what I believe about meditation and left me with a curiosity and commitment to continue to diligently meditate, but I felt it also deeply demystified what loving-kindness is. Within a small weekly timeframe I feel we touched on some of the most deeply touching aspects of our basic human emotions and reactions. It was calming and stirring all at the same time but overall the training was a big deep breath of hope and appreciation for the process of compassion in our personal lives and the lives of others.” — Noemi G.
“Julia Frodahl is a gifted guide and has so many stories, lessons and quotes to share. She's also really good at shining a light on difficult emotions, like anger and resentment, and how we can sabotage our own happiness. This practice goes beyond self improvement. It get's to the core of what we all seek: happiness, intention, and living from the heart, for ourselves and for others. After the course completed, I am still practicing metta loving kindness. I've gained so much insight and peace. My days have been better with this intentional practice.” — Jessica S.
”Julia has opened up the meaning of compassion for me, especially the need for self-compassion. Her gentle manner, her insightful and challenging questions, and her genuine care for each of us and our development have inspired and supported me on this essential journey.  I feel so grateful I discovered her NOW!” - Karen B.
“I'm so grateful to have learned about Julia's compassion immersion course. Julia presented the material in a simple yet profound way that resonated deeply with me, and her blending of Eastern spiritual teachings with Western psychology and neuroscience offers a truly transformative way to approach oneself and the world. My cohort was filled with kind and gracious people as well, and I'm honored to be a part of the community Julia has fostered.” - Sedona H.
"Julia is one of the sweetest and most nurturing people I have ever met. She knows how to hold space, listen and guide so well. I loved both Compassion Immersions I did with her and found it inspiring to be connected to a wonderful community who was willing to share and be vulnerable together. Signing up for this course was one of the smartest things I've done this year and it couldn't have been a better timing. On completion I felt much more grounded and happy, honestly I feel like a better person. I highly recommend this course for anyone and everyone!" - Juliette R.
“Diving into the compassion immersion with Julia was a truly life-changing experience. I learnt how to sit with discomfort, hold space for complex emotions and navigate both the world and relationships with a newfound sense of confidence, calmness and ultimately compassion. Julia is very clear that compassion is NOT about disrespecting our boundaries. Which is something I previously struggled with as a people-pleaser. This course gave me the tools to be compassionate towards MYSELF as well as others. Julia exudes the energy of everything she teaches, her wonderful aura and unique teaching style made attending the Saturday sessions a real treat. I always felt there was plenty of space for questions and the whole cohort was lovely and encouraging. It’s now been several weeks since completing the course, and the benefits are only growing stronger as I continue implementing the practical lessons from the course in my everyday life. The teachings have really helped me to navigate a challenging period in my life. Thank you Julia and everyone I attended with.” - Lucy S.W.
”We live in a volatile world right now. Julia's course will open your eyes and your heart (if you are willing) to creating a new view of love, light and compassion, built on a deeper understanding of ourselves and those around us. She will help you create a more predictable environment for yourself and those you choose to surround yourself with.” - Fresh F.
“If you want to smile more, be connected to nature and others, apprecciate all you have, loose your ablity to worry, your interest in conflict and loose your interest in judging your self and others? This course will begin your journey to be compassionate to yourself and others.” — Sheila H.
“I often passed a painted mural by the rusting train bridge over 10th street - with soft blue and teal abstract botanical shapes, like ocean creatures, and the hand-painted words "be the change you wish to see in the world," attributed to Gandhi. The words survive years of rust streaks and an unrelenting sun, weeds encroaching above and causing cracks. It's an admonishment that seems simple, just as compassion would seem easy to find and practice. But it is not. Julia's Compassion course opened my eyes to what is possible, if only we allow ourselves to imagine. She lays out clearly and persuasively that all the love in the universe is here already, that we just need to remove the obstacles to it. The course is like a peeling away of layers hiding the true nature of ourselves. The weekly lessons and community portal create a safe and welcoming space, one in which we find like-hearted people from around the continent and across the ocean who seek to nurture compassion in real and practical ways. Julie shares her deep knowledge of psychology, Buddhism and meditation in ways that never feel like a lecture, more like a conversation and an invitation to learn and dig deeper. She offers new and sometimes difficult information in simple language without patronizing or complicating. Everything is accessible, almost familiar, as if you've heard it before in a faded dream and just now remember it. I love how she interweaves poetry and wisdom from writers and activists, demonstrating the power and care of words and their effect on our psyche. The course feels like a fresh start. Before I enrolled, I hesitated, thinking I couldn't make the time commitment, mentally or physically. But when I made the commitment, time seemed to slow and open up. My outlook feels brighter and more hopeful. And as heavy as the world feels, amid a climate and existential crisis, I feel better equipped to imagine - and create - a more compassionate world.” — Ana J.
